Our Mission

The grounds of our cemeteries are sacredly devoted to the interment and memorialization of the
honoured dead. As a manifestation of the respect and affection, which our community bestows upon
those who are buried here, it is intended that our cemeteries be perpetually areas of quiet beauty and
serenity – to beckon the living as well as to provide repose for the dead.

Our heritage is enriched by the lives and deeds of the men and women who have preceded us. It is,
therefore, our goal, as part of the remembrance of them, to maintain permanent records of those
whose earthly remains have been entrusted to us. It is further the goal of Mount Pleasant Cemetery to
provide empathetic and effective service to the citizens of the London area in the years to come.
We will obtain this by having an efficiently run, professional cemetery with a staff that has initiative,
incentive, effective problem solving and communication skills to continuously exceed our customer’s
standards and expectations.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery was established in 1875 by a group of London businessmen wanting a non- denominational cemetery. The cemetery is still run today by a group of business people who form a Board of Directors who volunteer the time they serve on the Board. The Annual General Meeting is held each spring when all lot owners are invited to attend. The Chapel and Crematorium were built in 1971 to accommodate the changing needs of families.

Oakland Cemetery was originally established in 1855. After many years of neglect Mount Pleasant Cemetery assumed ownership in 1982 and re-opened the Cemetery in 1995.

Our Transfer Service was established in 2017 to serve our families who wish to keep their arrangements simple. This means that we can arrange for Direct Burial or Direct Cremation, where your loved one is taken directly into our care. From the moment of death to the final disposition and memorialization, our knowledgeable staff will be there to advise you.
