John Wood

Obituary of John F. M. Wood

With deep sadness we announce the death of a beloved area musician at the age of 83 on August 1, 2022. John's life was as wonderful and as full of music as any life could be. He was an organist, conductor, composer, adjudicator, recitalist, choirmaster, private teacher of voice, piano and organ, and teacher at the University of Western Ontario. He and his choir earned many accolades during their singing tour of Europe. John dedicated his life to music and inspiring students to be the best they could be, many of whom went on to become professional musicians themselves. John is predeceased by parents Daisy (Vine) and Richard G. Wood, brother Richard Wood and sister Phyllis Mooney. He is the loving father of Jamie (Oshawa) and Tom (Edmonton) and dear uncle of Fern Colson (Belleville). John also leaves behind his beloved cat, Trumpet. John's jovial and appreciative personality will be missed by all who knew him. He spoke with careful enunciation, but laughed with wild abandon with a throwing back of his head. Everyone is most welcome to attend the graveside interment of ashes on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 2:00 o'clock, Section 13 of Stratford Avondale Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared by visiting John’s Tribute Wall at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery (London) Inc. In John’s memory, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
