I've known the Payne Family since the early 1970's and Doug remains one of my closest friends. I was always made to feel welcome in their home and we've shared many laughs, stories, meals and long discussions together over the decades. Ron was a good family man. You always knew where you stood with him, and he wasn't shy about sharing life's lessons with us 'kids'. He absolutely loved to laugh, and he was generous with both his time and his resources. When, as a young man, I bought my first run-down house, Ron came over and sorted out the electrical for me over the course of a few days. I'm still in that house 36 years later and remain grateful to this day!
So many memories... One evening in my teens, Ron got out his old 78 R.P.M.'s and played the 'Shadow' radio show for us with the lights out to share what he experienced before the popularity of television. (That was cool!) Even visiting the family after the move from Oakville to London, Ron again shared by taking the time to dig out old newspaper clippings he had saved that he thought I'd be interested in.
Ron embraced Canadian culture as he loved Canada and all the opportunity it afforded. And his hard work and devotion earned him a family to be proud of.
He will be greatly missed.
Love to Jodie, Gus, Dooze, and the entire family.

We came to know Ron over a year ago. He walked the neighbourhood for exercise regularly and loved sharing rail road information from the past. Ron's amazing energy and positive attitude will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences from the Li family.

Dear Karen, Doug and Gord,
I am so saddened to learn of Ron’s passing. He was such a lovely, warm and kind hearted neighbour and I know he will be hugely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. My Dad Philip always talked about Ron in the highest regard and loved trading railway stories with him. I will never forget how Ron was always willing to help any and everyone. Please accept my sincere condolences.
With much love,
Bente Rowe

Uncle Ron was a kind and gentle man. He always made me feel so special. In the later years he would reach out to me by email to check in on me and share a joke or two. I absolutely loved it! He lived, he loved, he will be missed ❤️

Ron was like a Big Brother to me. When I was a kid, he helped me repair my bicycle & explained how car engines run. Later he told me how the electric-motive drives run on diesel locomotives & explained why they replaced the steam powered locomotive, he had a great sense of duty regarding his job as a Mechanical Officer for CN Rail.
Ron had a wonderful sense of humor, he always had good jokes and conjured up comical situations about people & places.
Ron gave me a lot of good advise over the years but it was his unwavering friendship that a Loving Brother gives, that I will always remember. God Bless You Ron.
Love, Lynn Boles

Dear Karen, Gord, and Doug,
We will miss our very wonderful neighbour. It was always a pleasure to chat with Ron and you Karen, as you walked together about the condominium complex. In his later years Ron had a lot of mobility issues but he would always have a very positive attitude and a warm smile that just brightened your day.
The great humanitarian, Dr. Albert Schweitzer said, "The only thing of importance, when we depart, will be the traces of love we have left behind." May you be comforted, at this time of loss, by Ron's love for you all that he leaves behind with each of you.

Aunt Karen and family,
Uncle Ron was one of everyone's favourite uncles. He was always so good with words and writing. We will miss all those wonderful telegrams he used to do at family gatherings and celebrations. I remember him being the emcee for my wedding years ago as he held a captive audience with his wit and humour. I loved hearing stories about the old days and how he would tell it with great detail. I also thought he was very good with people and knowing when someone needed help. I heard how he was going to help a co-worker once who had a drinking problem when others walked away from it. Uncle Ron I know was a great and rare man.
