THE MARSHALLS lit a candle

Bob met Bill when he began working for Emco Supply in 1966. Their business relationship developed into a friendship and they enjoyed many discussions, trips, and rounds of golf over the years. In Cuba, Bill and Bob tried boogie boarding but decided people watching at the beach was a safer way to spend their days. Bill asked me to shop for souvenir Tshirts for his grandchildren as he knew I enjoyed bartering with the "Cheapy Cheapy" vendors at the Melia Veradero hotel. We had a wonderful lobster dinner at a beachfront restaurant together when our vacay times coincided.
Bill was a class act ... honest, sincere and proud of his family. Bob will miss a treasured friend. May you Rest In Peace, Billy B!

Bill originally hired my husband Merv as an apprentice and he continued working there for over 34 years. It's not often that you can call your employer a friend but, that's what Bill was, a friend to all but also a great leader. He was such a kind, generous man who loved a good joke and had the most infectious laugh. In 1968 I started working for a construction company that was in the same building. I met Merv there and we were later married. Bill and his family was a huge part of our lives for many, many years and his passing has left a huge hole in our hearts. Our sincere condolences to the whole family.

Johnny boy … tough to hear as to the loss of your hero. Know that you made your father very proud in all that you have accomplished in business, family and your quiet philanthropy to our community. It’ll be tough to fill those shoes. May his memory be eternal.

Bill and I spent the better part of an afternoon having pops together on a catamaran off the Amalfi coast of Italy while on a MCAO convention. We met through MCAO years back in 1996 when Sudbury hosted the Ontario annual meeting. He referred to us as his northern cousins. So sad to hear of his passing. Our deepest condolences to all of his family. Rest in peace Bill. Rick and Carmen Gauvreau, Sudbury.

Bruce and I send condolences to all of the Besterd family. Bruce was hired by Bill and was their serviceman for the company for 28 years. Bill was a true gentleman and cared about people. When my dad (Sherry) passed away at home unexpectedly and alone Bill was there with us to help. For many years he would drop in on Christmas day to see us. Of course a celebration drink. So many great memories. Bruce and I are grateful for him being a part of our lives. RIP Gentle Giant.

Over the years I have never forgotten Bill. I worked at Besterd Mechanical for 9 years and Bill was always a sure bet to make you laugh. Of course I never missed a chance to play a joke on Bill. He was as people say "a gentle giant" When Bill and the guys would go for lunch, most times they would ask for a doggy bag for Cindy. I guess they wanted to make sure I ate, LOL. I remember having to call over to Tony's pizza to give Bill a message and they asked if I was the Cindy they like to bring the doggy bags for. I didn't know what to say, accept "Yep that's me" and laughed.
I had a lot of good memories and Bill will surely be missed by all.
My sincere condolences to the family.

To all the Besterd Family, my sincere condolences. Bill, the gentle giant, is at rest now. I worked for Besterd Mechanical for 10 years, the best job ever! Bill came into the office every morning for coffee and a chat. Then he would be off to visit with his cronies. He was such a generous man. He took his sister, BettyLou, and I to the Petrolia Playhouse many, many times. He always took us to dinner prior to the play. One year at the Company Christmas Party we had a dance. What a treat!! I talked to Bill not too long ago. He immediately called sister, BettyLou, to tell her! Bill, you will be greatly missed.

To All,
I suppose my most significant memory of Uncle Bill's responsive generosity was his rescue of our farm situation. In 1968 we moved to London Twp. to something resembling a house. This house had a woodstove for backup heat, an outhouse for a toilette and various other amenities. Bill took care of the plumbing matters and I believe he did the bathroom sink himself and possibly also replaced the jsnotor's sink with a real kitchen sink. These plumbing adventures are just examples of his generosity and kindness.
With me personally he gave valuable Life Advice that I remember to the present time.
He was a true Hero to me. Whoever composed the obituary did a splendid job. I am very sad that he has left this life. I feel very fortunate go have known him.
Regards and Co.ndolences to his immediate family,
R. (Bob) Besterd

A little more than 50 years ago, my mother placed a turkey into the oven on Christmas Day. Alas the stove had quit working. I phoned Bills son, John and asked if his father, Bill, had a service person that could come out and try to fix the problem. Minutes later Bill Besterd himself arrived and immediately set to fix the stove. I will never forget seeing Bill on his back on our kitchen floor with his head stuck right into the bottom of the oven, fiddling with the workings. He fixed it, wished us a Merry Christmas and was on his way back home to his family. We never got a bill. However, we did get The Bill, and through his kindness my mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our festive dinner that Christmas Day, 1972.
Debbie, Rick John, Maria, Steven - My sincerest condolences on the loss of your family patriarch, Bill. He left the world a much better place.
