Over the teaching years Don was a colleague and mentor. I always enjoyed the moments when Don would rise at a staff or union meeting. He had a principled mind and a way of quietly forming a clear question that went to the heart of the issue at hand, one which leadership did not want to hear but had to answer.
Don was a friend and I much enjoyed in later years our seasonal wide ranging personal and political conversations and the sharing of books and family stories about our prairie roots. I am glad we were able to do that one more time this past spring.
My deepest condolences to Joy and Don's family. I will remain thinking of you during this difficult time.
