Very sad to hear of Don’s passing. The notice just reached me today.
Don and I attend Univ of Waterloo together and worked together for two summers at Northern Telecom in New Liskeard where we enjoyed canoeing together. He was not fond of mosquitoes and twice I had to jump out of our canoe to rescue his glasses.
While we didn’t work together after New Liskeard we need meet up occasionally including a visit to S California. We shared a lifelong involvement in Agriculture and computer science.

Dear family of Mr. Don Thede. I had the great pleasure to first meet Don about 4 years ago in person when I started with St. Lawrence Grains & Farm Supply here is Stouffville, Ontario. one of the companies that is still using Thede Ward systems.
It was an honour to know Don, the person who built the program. He was very patient with us, and always helpful like no one in his role. it really showed that he did what he loved and I truly appreciate everything that he has done for us.
I hope you find this message well, I looked up Don online when I was told he was not longer with the company.
My condolences.

Anne & Family,
Sorry to hear of Don's passing. I first met Don my first day at Hensall Disctrict Co-op 43 years ago. For my first few weeks, I thought Don was an HDC employee as Don was there most days. He was in the early stages of developing TWS. Over the years, we had many conversations about TWS, but also our similar backgrounds. We both had a math degree from the University of Waterloo, both grew up on farms and both looked forward to the Leafs next Stanley Cup.. The farm background obviously serve Don well in his agricultural software development. It doesn't seem like too long ago he was still telling me about baling straw or hay in the Drumbo area. Don had great patience and with be missed by family and the industry.

A Gentleman and a Scholar who I first met in the late eighties while with Topnotch Feeds, and with who I continued to work with until this year solving problems for Elgin and Thorndale Feeds. He had a true understanding of farming and Agribusiness which enabled him to create TWS and solve many administrative problems in the industry.
Having come from similar farming roots and taking time each year to bale some hay gave us many side conversations to enjoy while working problems and updates etc.
I will plant a group of white pine in his memory at Camp Menesetung Goderich

Brother, we had a long journey together. You will be missed so much. As kids, we didn't see other kids very often so we were are best playmates do hide-and-seek in a darkened house, riding grain shovels down a snow-covered barn hill. Later, as older boys and with the Stevenson boys Jim and Jack we played ball, football and hockey. Strangely, we grew to love the farm bringing in thousands of small square bales per year, more strangely cleaning out all those cattle and hog pens. I know you loved scuffling the corn on the little John Deere with your transitor radio playing Beach Boys. I know you loved hockey, playing in Paris after high school. You were still playing in no-contact until recently. In our middle years, we did not see so much of each other, but you still were an influence, such as switching me from chemistry to computer science which gave me a computer programming career. In our recent years, you were a great help to me on the farm. When I broke my one hand, you cleaned out the cattle pens for me. We were back to bringing in the small squares (hundreds not thousands), field work doing cultivation and even planting the last two years soybeans. We did winter work of cutting up fallen trees for firewood. We did a lot together and I will miss having you to lean on.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our long-time friend, Don, and extend our Deepest Sympathy to his family.
We shared many good times together and have amassed wonderful memories over the years while raising our kids, then travelling and cruising to new and varied destinations. Don never knew exactly what Anne and Rhonda were organizing but his bag was packed and ready to go.
Don was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed and had all the right ‘tools’ to do the job. He will be missed!
A Life Well- Lived…….

I am so sad to hear the news of Don’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Don for over 30 years. I always looked forward to picking up the phone to call him to work thru another system issue or software development project for our company. There was not a problem he couldn’t solve, and his patience was never ending. I will miss him dearly.

I never met Don in person but we worked together many times via phone and email. As a new employee with Openlink, I appreciated Don's help when it came to understanding the Thede Ward software. He was patient and always willing to explain anything I did not understand. It was a pleasure to speak with him. I was very sorry to hear of his passing and send my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. I simply cannot imagine how much he will be missed by family and co-workers.

I grew up on a farm next to Les, Don's father. During our teen years we spent a lot of time together playing chess, bringing in baled hay and playing football. In those days there wasn't a decent living farming so we both left home and went on to school. We didn't see much of one another over the years but when we did it was like picking up where we left off.

I started working for Don 38 years ago. It has been a pleasure to work with him all these years.
As a Systems Analyst, he was one of the best. He had the great ability to understand
complex problems and create simple solutions that always worked. He was also one of the
hardest working people I have ever met. A few years after I started working with him we
went on a week long trip to a client. He would wake up every day at 6 am, we would eat
a quick breakfast and go the client site where we would stay until midnight and then
we could return to the hotel. This process was repeated each day. I was exhausted by
the end of the week but Don was always energetic and totally focused. Don was the
definition of a fine man. He was loving husband and father. He worked hard and earned
everything he had. He was respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed
by all.
