Obituary of William (Bill) Alexander Knowles
William (Bill) Alexander Knowles
August 30, 1935 – July 27, 2022
William (Bill) Alexander Knowles died calmly and peacefully, surrounded by his closest friends, on July 27, 2022, in his 87th year. Bill worked for CN for 37 years. He was married to Jean, his late wife, for 52 years. She was the love of his life. Bill and Jean loved to travel. They visited Europe, Russia, India, South America and all parts of North America. These were special times where they enjoyed good food and good wine with family, friends and newly found friends! Bill was especially fond of visiting his cousins in Scotland, where he and Jean made many visits. Bill also enjoyed theatre, the orchestra, concerts and attending First St. Andrew’s (FSA) United Church. Bill, alongside Jean, volunteered at St Paul’s Daily Bread Program, the annual Rummage Sale for Orchestra London, and was a founding member of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (“Grow a Row”) Program at FSA. Their contribution to the cause of Social Justice, both in London and around the world, will be their legacy. Bill leaves behind many good friends and family in Canada and in Scotland.
Bill wished to express gratitude to the Richmond Woods Retirement Home staff, the doctors and nurses from the community, the Home Instead caregivers and his friends who all helped him along the way to deal with the many challenges of the past 3 ½ years since he lost Jean.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service honouring Bill’s life will be held at First St. Andrew’s United Church on Thursday September 22 at 2pm. Please check the COVID Protocol at FSA closer to this date.
