Some years ago, George and ‘lovie’ welcomed me into their Portuguese apartment. That holiday was a magical time for me but perhaps what was more of a surprise was that, despite knowing Anita since the early 70s, George and I had never met! The camaraderie and warmth were instant and that first encounter with George will always bring a smile to my face. One sunny afternoon while wandering through a picturesque town I stopped to photograph a pair of weathered doors. They were history-soaked and had aged with a beautiful patina. Sensing there was another photographer close by I chuckled to discover that George, unaware of my presence, had chosen the same subject! Looking at that photograph today, I imagine George is on the other side of those doors. He is appreciating all that is natural in his new life. He is exchanging stories with all the energies he meets in his new life. And in this new life, I know there are countless monarchs playfully surrounding him as he moves. Safe trip butterfly man. What a legacy!
