Obituary of Sandra Patricia McCauley

Sandra passed away peacefully in her home, after a short and brave battle with cancer. Sandra was born in Woodstock on August 5, 1941. She was a graduate of McMaster University. After working at the Hamilton Public library and then teaching in Wingham and Windsor she left to help in her first husband's business venture. She was later hired to work at the London Board of Education. Sandra taught at the G.A.Wheable Adult Learner Centre, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, H.B. Beal, Clarke Road, Thames and Central secondary schools. Sandra was a teacher/librarian, one who read widely and loved what research, prose and poetry can provide. Her gift shone through with her ability to bring together individual books and students or staff members. In a caring fashion, she encouraged others to be engaged, as she was, in the world of stories, ideas and social issues. Sandra was predeceased by her mother Jean Pierce, father Vaughn Tomlinson and brother Wayne Tomlinson. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Kenneth Nicholson, step-sisters Beverly and Mary Pierce, daughter Marcie, step-daughters Kathleen, Cecily, and step-sons Aaron, Joel and Daniel. The family would like to thank the palliative care outreach team for their kindness and support. Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Sandra’s life will be held during the Spring. The family would also like to thank the staff at Mount Pleasant Cemetery for their kindness and understanding assistance at this time. In lieu of cards or flowers, Sandra would wish that any donations in her name be made to ANOVA : a future without violence, or the London Humane Society.
