Obituary of Susan Jane Regan

Loved by so many, our sister, aunt, Godmother, Sue Regan, passed away suddenly on Saturday Aug. 17, 2024. Born in 1954, Sue was an incredible teacher, athlete, singer, musician, coach, and mentor. Sue taught for more than three decades with the local Catholic school board, at St. Mary’s Choir School, Catholic Central High School, and Regina Mundi College. As a decorated teacher, coach and athletic director, she combined integrity, inclusivity, knowledge, and an ability to laugh at herself with her love of helping young people see their inherent value and self-worth. As an athlete Sue excelled at several sports, becoming a member of the Catholic Central Sports Wall of Fame. Sue was instrumental in the growth of women’s softball in London, leading the Ted Dilts Gems and MAS Women’s Softball clubs to several national championships as a player-coach. She is a member of the Slo-Pitch Ontario Hall of Fame. Talented in many ways, Sue was a gifted singer and guitarist. From her early teen years until her 40’s she could be found weekly leading the folk choir at Mass at St. Pius X/Holy Family Catholic Church. Hundreds of young couples enjoyed her gifts as she sang and played at their weddings. As a family member, “Aunt Sue” was a pillar in a large clan. Devoted to her nieces and nephews, she gave them the most unusual and fun Christmas gifts. She frequently baby-sat her nieces and nephews, playing “dress-up,” laughing and teaching songs that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. In retirement, Sue travelled, enjoyed the company of family, friends and her dogs, and closely followed the exploits of her favourite sports teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins (indeed, she had dogs named Crosby and Malkin) and the Buffalo Bills. Predeceased by her parents Ken and Marion Regan, brother Peter, sister-in-law Suzanne Bernier and brother-in-law Bill Mackenzie, Sue leaves behind her siblings Shelley Mackenzie, Judy Hannivan (John), John Regan (Tracey Swift), Mark Regan, Jeff Regan, Shannon Regan (Tony Stokes), sister-in-law Lissa Regan, fourteen nieces and nephews, as well as an ever-growing number of grand nieces and nephews. Friends and extended family are invited to a memorial Mass and celebration of Sue’s life at St. Justin’s Catholic Church, 855 Jalna Boulevard, on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11am. Following the Mass, we will gather in the Church Hall at about Noon to remember our wonderful sister, aunt, and friend. If you cannot attend Mass, please join us at the reception in the Church Hall.
